New years resolution time

My New Year's Resolution....... to keep a clean house.

I have struggled for some time to keep my house looking nice. It always seems to be cluttered. Or else that's how I feel.

I tend to feel embarrassed when folks come to my house unexpectantely.

Okay, not tend to feel, but really feel.

So my New Year's Resolution is to get it cleaned and keep it cleaned.

I have started with my oven. I had found this blog while surfing the internet this morning.

I read her post on cleaning the inside glass of the oven (found here), thought why not give it a try.

She does have a 14 day Challenge going on now.

This was kind of gross while scrubbing it.

But at the end, it a very clean glass.

I can see my feet through the glass. The kids will love being able to watch things now as they cook.

I did some creating last night. I have a holiday party today for work and I finally finished my gift to the lucky person who picks my gift.

I had been seeing a few of these glass blocks on pinterest, and thought I could do that. The only thing with mine is I couldn't find any ribbon I truly loved.

I can't wait to make more. Going to make another one for my in laws tonight.

What are your hobbies?
I really like crocheting right now. It's something so simple to do in front of the tv at night.
I am also dabbling into recycled crafts. I have a holiday party for work coming up and I am doing paper towel/tp rolls cut and pasted into stars. So simple yet so elegant. My kids have kept me busy that I really haven't had much time to do any sewing, which I am truly missing. I need to clean and get myself organized.

What are your favorite colors?
I have lots of favorite colors. Yellow being the favoritist (is that truly a word?). I'm not really into the bright snazzy colors or the soft pastel colors. I do use them to create things with though.

Do you collect anything?
I sometimes wish I collected things, but I haven't found much that really appeals to me everytime. My house is kind of like a mish mash of all sorts of things.

Are you allergic to any fibers or animals?
No allergies here, other than typical pollen. I was very blessed not to have allergies to anything.

Do you have any pets?
Yes, does the husband and kids count????? lol. If not, then we will just count our two Pitbull dogs. Boss and Quin. Boss was named because he was the boss of the liter when we got him. I can honestly say I didn't want him because of his breed, but he is the most wonderful dog I have ever had. Quin was originally named Queen, but when we rescued her we just weren't feeling it. Didn't take long for her to respond to her new name.

Coffee, Tea, or Chocolate?
I would love a cup of coffee right now. It might wake me up!! I am a coffee drinker, but not one who likes weird things. Plain coffee with French Vanilla Creamer added. Not so much of a tea drinker, but the husband is. Chocolate?? Who doesn't love chocolate? Well at least like some sort of it, right? I do love a little piece of chocolate everyone once in awhile.

What do you like to read?
Right now I am trying to read The Help. Trying is the key word. I have heard so many good things, but for some reason I struggle to stay awake. It might help if I don't try and read it right before bed.
I typically just purchase a few magazines to look through, and read all the books the kids place in my lap.

Do you prefer Cookies or Candies as a sweet?
If I had to choose, I would choose cookies. But then again I'm not so much into sweets. Give me a pan of green bean casserole and I would love you forever.

What is your favorite holiday treat?
I really like to eat the peanut drops with hershey kisses in them. Those are my guilty pleasures. I only make them during the holiday season. I think those the one cookies that people eat first. Me included.

Describe your favorite holiday tradition.
My favorite is our brunch at my in laws home. She fixes a big breakfast casserole, bacon, sausage, mimosas, all the trimming for breakfast. When we didn't have kids, it was the highlight of my Christmas. It really wouldn't be the same if we didn't have brunch there.

Did you believe in Santa as a child?
I sure did. I sometimes still do believe. Watching all the wonderful holiday movies on Lifetime makes me a believer, because it's not so much that he is a person who delivers toys, it's all the small things that take place during this time of year. The thoughtfulness, the cheer, the giving to others. I think it's the spirit of the season.

When do you open presents?
We open on Christmas morning. I am usually the first one up, followed by the kids. At that point I get them to wake up their daddy. But they aren't allowed to open presents until we are all there together.

Do you put up a tree and when? If not, how do you celebrate?
I like to put the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. But last year we got a real tree for the first time, and the needles kept falling all to soon. If we don't put it up after Thanksgiving this year it will be the first weekend in December.

Does your tree have a theme?
Mish Mash of ornaments handed down and that my husband and I purchased when we started dating. I keep thinking about doing a theme, but then that would cost a lot of money to purchase a bunch of new things. I really like the Old World Christmas, I might look into doing this one year. I do plan on having a small tree for the kids to decorate with ornaments that they made and home made ornaments.

What has been your favorite gift to give? to receive?
My favorite to give has been the home made quilts I did for everyone one year. Not only was I thankful I got them done in time, but also the gratitude I received for taking the time and how thoughtful it was of me to do.
I really like to receive gifts that the person really took the time and energy to think about. I'm not really a fan of getting gift cards. So when I open a gift and can really tell that the person really thought about the gift, that is the best.

Halloween

The office had a retirement party for a one of the ladies who has been with the agency for a real long time. Her team wanted to have a Halloween themed party. A few ladies dressed up. As you can see Silly Jilly and Stupid Sue were in attendance. The two are hilarious together. They played the part wonderfully.

Funeral and Fire truck fun

My family had a funeral to attend today for my great aunt. She was an awesome lady who fought the last two years of hers life. Aunt Jean, was the last remaining sibling to my grandfather on my mothers side. She grew up with 6 sisters and 3 brothers. Thinking about this, back then it seems the families were all large and were able to manage financially. See, my grandmothers siblings - 6 brothers and 3 sisters. How ironic. One of our memories is of her at Christmas's trying to steal every one's presents. She really didn't want them, but it was her personality that made it fun. We were very blessed to have her in our lives. Aunt Jean will forever be missed.

After the funeral, we reconvened at the fire hall were my uncle is part of. The kids had a blast climbing the fire trucks.

My uncle was in heaven given tours of the fire trucks. He loves to show the kids all the cool equipment that he is able to use as a volunteer fire fighter.

Postage Stamp Quilt Along

I'm quilting along with others for the Postage Stamp Quilt Along hosted by p.s. i quilt.

I have never quilted along others before. I happened to see her post on this and thought it would be fun to participate. I love the simple quilts, I'm a simple gal I guess.

So far my progress.

This week and into the weekend I will be cutting these up into 2 1/2 inch rows. And hopefully I will be able to work on sewing them together per the instructions for the quilt along.

The Family

We haven't taken a picture of our family since Peanut (Elizabeth) was 1 years old. I felt so bad the our Beaner (Lillian) hasn't been in a family picture. The girls are getting so big now. For Christmas Peanut wanted to get her ears pierced. We went to her pediatrician after Christmas, and much to my surprise, she did wonderful. Beaner's language has grown so much in the last year. 3 years old is right around the corner for her.

Kyle's Quilt

I've finally had the chance to take some sort of pictures of the quilt I made for my baby-sitter's little boy, Kyle. I used 3 different shirts that I purchased at Salvation Army. I enjoyed doing this lap quilt for the fact that I took old shirts and made something new with them. Plus the fact that Kyle absolutely loves it, he sleeps with it every night.

I have quite a few finished now, since that is what everyone is getting for Christmas this year from me. I have a two lap quilts to finish-just need batting, 2 twin quilts-one needs batting the other is a rather simple to put together, and 2 queen quilts-one needs to be quilted and the other I'm almost finished with the top. I'm sure I will have more pics within the next couple of weeks.

Turkey Pot Pie Casserole

With lots of left over turkey, I have decided to try this new recipe I've come across. I purchased this mini cookbook from the local grocery store awhile ago, and have been lingering on making quite a few. Casseroles & one-dish meals, here's a link to the website. I didn't find the book I have, but they have some good ones.

Anyways, here's the recipe:

2 pounds turkey breast, cut into 1-inch cubes
6 tablespoons butter
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground sage
1/2 tsp ground thyme
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup milk
1 bag (16 ounces) frozen soup vegetables
1 tsp salf
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 container (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1) Preheat oven to 375F. Coat 13x9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray; set aside. Coat large nonstick skillet with cooking spray, and heat over medium heat. Working in batches, brown turkey on all sides. Transfer to platter.
2) Melt butter in skillet. Whisk in flour, sage and thyme. Cook and stir 5 minutes. Slowly whisk in chicken broth and milk. Cook, whisking constantly, about 5 minutes or until thickened.
3) Stir in turkey, vegetables, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, 5-7 minutes or until thick and creamy. Spoon mixture into prepared dish. Unroll crescent roll dough. Place over top of casserole. Bake 15 minutes or until top is golden brown.

***I used left over turkey for this recipe, so I didn't cook any. I also used Tastefully Simple's Spinach and Herb mix instead of thyme and sage. Of course by my picture you can see, I was so not creative on the crescent rolls, but maybe next time. I also used just a regular bag of mixed frozen veggies. When I had gone shopping I couldn't find any frozen soup vegetables. Perfectly fine by me.

It's been raining for a few days now. Well, we kind of need the rain.

You know I've found it hard to really sit down and keep a blog. No, I didn't think it would be easy, but I didn't think I would go months with no posts either. I am now vowing to keep up with it. I am vowing to at least post once a month. I would like to post more often, but I'm not sure if that is possible for me.

I guess I'm going to start off with, I've got soooo much to do before Christmas. Did you know there are only 86 days until? I've said to my husband that I wanted to make quilts for everyone this year. I seem to be getting most started. Just have to really work on finishing them. Yes when I'm finished I will post pics. That's mainly why I started the blog, to keep an online journal of the work I've done.

I'm also hoping to do a few tutorials before the end of the year. I have a few in mind, just have to get the supplies and write them out. After reading and looking at a bunch of different blogs, I finally realized I need to get my butt in gear.

CrabApple Tree

I took these pictures the other day of our crabapple tree. Greg's aunt and uncle planted it the day the got married. Don't ask me when that was, I don't remember when they said. But I've been experimenting with my camera lately and love these pictures. I'm even thinking about putting some up on our walls.

OMGosh it's May!?

I can't believe it's May already. Were did this year go? I know it's been a long time since I've blogged, but I do have an excuse - it's been so nice here. We have had some really great days, so I've been busy outside painting, weeding, mowing, just playing with the kids outside. I even went out and purchased a bike and trailer for the girls. We went on our first bike ride the other day. It really kicked my butt.

I've done a few sewing projects, forgot to take pictures though. I finally finished the girls dress's. I only had to put buttons on them. It took so long to really find buttons I liked. I went to put them on and I couldn't find them. So I got stuck putting some other buttons on it. I can always change them once I find the ones I really purchased for them. Now looking at the pictures and even with the dress on Elizabeth - I should have made her's longer. I will know for next time.

I love getting pictures done professionally of my girls. The last time we went to even try Elizabeth wanted nothing to do with it. Today, she was excellent. I choose to go to Walmart's Pictureme studio. Not bad in price. I was even able to purchase the whole sitting on a disc so I now have copyrights to all the pictures. I did order 1 set of 30 prints that they offered. Unfortunately I was only able to use 1 picture for all 30. So now that I have the cd and the rights, I can go anywhere and get my pictures printed a whole lot cheaper then through Pictureme. Which I really think all picture places are overly priced for prints.

Quilt Festival

Park City Girl is having a Quilt Festival and I thought what a good idea to put my very first quilt (that I've finished) in it.

I've just recently started getting into making quilts and this is/was my very first one that I actually completed. I made this for my baby sitter's oldest daughter, Katlyn's birthday. I loved making this quilt, which is just a lap quilt. I love the bright colors, I just love how this turned out. I used the Disappearing 9 patch that I found here. Katlyn always gets it out whenever I'm there. It makes me feel so proud that I was able to make something like this and really makes me want to do more. Which I plan on it for everyone for Christmas. Right now it's just a plan, hopefully I'll be able to do it.

Feista Apron Swap

My secret swapper was Nadine, and she received her package already! Let me tell you, sometimes USPS surprise me on how fast they are. She emailed me and told me how much she liked it all. I'm absolutely glad she did. I always get nervous about whether or not my partners are going to like what they receive from me.

I haven't been really busy with crafting this week, it's been gorgeous outside, so I got a lot of yard work done. I have made a few magnets for my Swap-Bot swap (will post pics soon). I'm hoping to get my butt moving and make a few more and open an etsy shop. Wishful thinking right now though. I've been so busy with my swaps, yard work and getting everything in order for school - that I haven't had time to just make things for fun. Hopefully soon everything will slow down.

Easter Dinner

We had Easter Dinner with my family yesterday, here at my house. 16 people, adults and kids all in my house that seems to be too small for my family of 4. We had a lot of fun though. I made the ham and stuffed potatoes. My sister made up the green bean casserole and my sister in law brought cupcakes for desert. My mom brought a pasta salad, while my aunt brought the pickles and olives. We are the family that loves our pickles.
Here are some pictures of the bags I made up for the kids to go outside and find Easter Eggs with. Our baskets never seem to be big enough.

We also purchased a trampoline on Friday. Everyone has their own opinions on this, so please do not preach to me. To me, they have way more pros than cons. Plus it has a safety net, so I totally am in love with it. I don't like it when people purchase items, and don't purchase the proper safety. If you buy a boat, don't you buy life vests? If you bought your kids a bike, wouldn't you buy a helmet? At least I would hope you would. So why wouldn't you buy the safety net that goes around a trampoline? To me it only makes sense.

Zucchini Sticks

Serves 6

Ingredients:

3 (small) zucchini

2 egg, whites

1 cup Italian bread crumbs

Directions:

Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Wash zucchini and slice into 2 inch long and 1/4 inch wide strips. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Place bread crumbs on plate. Roll zucchini in egg white and then in bread crumbs. Place on baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes.

Gift for Little Girl

Well, the little girl at the baby sitter's house, Jessica, is having a birthday this week. She will be 4. I made a hooded towel (my daughter was graciously modeling above). I put the letter J on the back of it. I also made a tote bag out of a 2 dish towels that I picked up at the Dollar Store. Yes it does need to be ironed. I wont do that while my girls are home, little miss nosies they are. I know Jessica will really like them. She told me she's a likes girly things. Her mother is going through some tough times right now, and I like making these hooded towels. Now if I can get my butt in gear I can make up the rest that I need for birthday's.

Edited 4/10/09 Just wanted to state that Jessica was so happy to have a new hooded towel. She modeled it off all day long. Up next is one for a little boy named Joseph - next week is his birthday.

The first shoots are of the pin cushions I received from my Swap-Bot partner. We only had to make 1, but am very thankful for the wonderful set.
This second set is from my wonderful parter, Mary, in Bend the Rules Sewing Swap. She made this beautiful Charming Handbag for me. And even included a few extras. Even a few extras for my girls.

Quilt

I have a problem. I forget birthday's. My baby sitter's daughter Katlyn, had a birthday in March. I knew it. The kids all had cupcakes. It totally went over my head. So, to make up for it I made her a lap quilt. She likes the bright colors. Even her room is very close to the green in the quilt. I did the Disappearing Nine Patch similar to this one. Everyone loved it, so I at least know it made up for my lack of remembering. Now to only remember the everyone else's birthday's.

Aqua and Red Apron

I made this reversible apron for my Swap -Bot partner. There was no preference to whether it had to be bib style or not. I like the first picture with the pattern . I almost think I should have put in pockets, but I did send more of the red fabric so she could put in a pocket or two if she choose to.

Found another great recipe. No picture, so you'll have to use your imagination as to how it looks. I look forward to making this one. Our family loves their broccoli. Now to find some good recipes containing Brussel sprouts.

Broccoli Stuffed Potatoes

3 large baking potatoes
3 stalks broccoli
salt & pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1-2 tablespoons whole milk or Daisy sour cream
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese or Gruyere

1. Scrub the potatoes and make shallow cuts around their middles to make it easier to cut them in half after baking. Bake the potatoes at 400 degrees until soft, usually 1 hour, depending on size of potatoes.
2. Meanwhile, cut the ends from the stalks of broccoli and peel some of the outer skin off to make the stems more edible. Steam the broccoli until crunchy-tender and bright green. 3. Drain and chop fine.
4. Cut potatoes in half and scoop out the insides into a bowl. Add the salt, olive oil and just enough milk and sour cream to allow you to mash the potatoes into a smooth paste. Add the cheese and the chopped broccoli and mix well.

5. Pile the mixture back into the potato shells, arrange on a baking dish and heat them to desired temperature.

I'm always looking for simple and easy recipes to make for guests. With Easter coming up in a few weeks, it's time for me to get my dinner thought about. My family all gets together and everyone brings something, my sister was asked to make green bean casserole. I'm thinking, "Let's make this instead." Lets hope she's good with it too.

Green Beans With Caramelized Onion Vinaigrette

This recipe serves 8

Hands-On Time: 0h15m

Total Time: 0h40m

Ingredients
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 large yellow onion, finely diced
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup sherry vinegar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 pounds green beans, trimmed
2 teaspoons grated orange zest

Directions
In a large skillet, over medium heat, heat the butter and 2 tablespoons of the oil.
Add the onion, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt. Cook, stirring occasionally,
for 25 minutes. Add the vinegar. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add the remaining
oil, 1/4 teaspoon of the salt, and the pepper.
Transfer half the mixture to a blender and puree, then return to skillet.
Meanwhile, cook the green beans with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of salt in
boiling water until tender, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a bowl of ice water.
Drain and pat dry. Transfer to a serving bowl, toss with the onion mixture,
and sprinkle with the zest.

Weekend Fun

Here is my nephew Riley Jay. He is now 2 wks old and almost 10 lbs. He's soo cute and cuddly. It makes me wish my girls were this tiny again. He's going to be a tall one, that's for sure. His parents both stand over 6' tall. His older sister, Kayci, who is 6, is taller than all the kids in her class.

We had a blast at my brother's house on Saturday. He works and lives on a farm, so the kids are always excited to go down there. In fact one of the cows was having a baby while we were there. Sorry no pics, I've seen it so many times that I don't need pics of this.

Guess Who's Buying a New Truck!

We finally found our new truck! Well new for us. We have been searching now for over 2 months looking for that perfect truck. We've gone out a few times a week looking at different dealerships and used car dealers. Greg has looked continuously online for months. This one we found online last night at a local dealership. They had just received it in as a trade in, the picture wasn't even up yet on their website. I told Greg that if he was truly interested we could go last night to take a look. He of course procrastinated for 10-20 minutes. We went, we looked, he drove it, we bought it. Finally, now I wont have to hear him complain "We need a truck" Now he will have no excuse to get the things done around the house I want him to do. We are remodeling our office to a different degree and need to extend our current desk, which was just made out of 3/4" plywood. He couldn't finish this project because we didn't have a truck to go get the rest of the plywood. NO excuses now! Yeah.

I purchased Amy Butler's Little Stiches a few weeks ago. Mainly for a few patterns, and this is one of them. I plan on putting in two more spots for the ties to go through. He is a big/long guy, so I want them to be able to utilize this for some time. And yes that is a purple/pink stuffed animal in the first picture. I couldn't find any of my daughter's baby dolls.

This is for my new nephew, Riley Jay, who was born March 11th weighing in at 9lbs 3oz and was 21.5 inches long.
I have the ones my brother sent from the hospital, but I will wait till Saturday to post. I know how my sil is about her pictures.

How to stay organized?

With all the swaps I've been doing, how do I stay organized? I wish I new. Right now I have a little notebook that fits in my purse. I write down the swap and when it is due (to be mailed). I also write down my swap partner if I know it and what colors and size they like/are. Also what material/items I may need to purchase for the swap. For example, for the Fiesta Swap I wrote down when it was due, who I am mailing it to, what colors she likes, what type of apron she would like, and what materials I would need to find to make the apron - yrds of fabric, buttons, rick rack, ect.
When I have found something on the list I check it off. When I have completed it I draw a line through the page. I have finished the Fiesta Apron, it's now waiting to be washed and pressed.

I don't really like the way I'm doing it right now, creative juices just aren't flowing in the organization department right now. If you have any suggestions please comment. I'm open to all suggestions. My only thing is I need to be able to carry it in my purse. I have to have it when I shop or go to post office.

Charming Handbag

This is my first attempt at making the Charming Handbag from Bend the Rules Sewing. I have to make one for my swap partner and thought I should try it out first. It was simple to make, yet somehow I think I messed up the dimensions. The book said to copy the patten and enlarge to 129%. Well I couldn't get my stinken printer to work correctly so I just took the measurements from the drawing in the book and doubled. I think I need to try and get my printer to work correctly. I don't believe it is supposed to be so large. I might have to change the handles on this one, only because they just don't look right with such a large bag. I will try again today with the pattern, so hopefully I can get my swap complete this week.

First Signs of Spring

First sign of spring here in the northeast. I can't for the rest of my flowers to bloom. I also can't wait to be able to plant my garden. I think I'll be taking up canning this year. My husband doesn't want to get a bigger freezer, but I would rather freeze than can. I would have to purchase too much for canning. We'll see what happens.

Wow! It's been awhile since I posted anything. My goal for this year was to update at least once a week. Been busy here with this and that lately. But I do have projects I've completed.
I've joined the Swap-Bot community. I've finished my first swaps already. Well I've finished mine and sent them out. I've only received 1 so far, but the deadline isn't here yet. Here's a few pics.

This one is for a Scavenger hunt. I had to include something from each of the following categories: Something with light blue/ robin egg blue, Some type of ribbon/ trim, Some type of sewing tool, Something on a spool, Something at least half a yard

My next one was a 9 Batch Quilt that had to be 10.5. I had 2 partners and had to make 2 for each. Some people requested specific colors, I just looked at their profiles to see what colors each liked. The first one I did, she liked the spring/happy colors.

This was the first time I ever did the 9 Batch, and I think I did really good. I do have to work on getting my lines straight though.

The next swap I was in was a Pack Work Pin Cushion. I've only made one pin cushion so far so I picked this swap to learn new ways of making them. They gave an example for one here. I thought about doing it, but changed my mind at the last minute. I went with just a square block.

I really like it. I think I might make one for my self. I thought about putting a couple of buttons on it, and decided it looked just fine without any. It kind of has an Asian feel to it. Maybe I'm wrong.

I have still been working on my quilts. I have one almost all cut out. Just have to cut the light color for it. I have a few patterns for dresses for my girls, unfortunetely they are too big. My aunt is an avid sewer and has a lot of patterns. As I was thinking about just making a pattern in the one dress I wanted to make my girls, I remembered I have a neice who loves to wear skirts and dresses. Guess what, the patterns are in her size, yeah. I bought a couple of really nice aqua blue fabrics (different styles) for my girls, so I have to go find something for my niece now. Her favorite colors are purple, pink, green and orange.

My books should be here today!!! Bend the Rules Sewing and a couple of Amy Butler books. I can't wait to try the handbag pattern, so I can get that swap started. I like to get my swaps done long before the deadline. That way I can take on more.

Are you using coupons? Well I am. It has saved me a ton of money. I especially like Hot Coupon World and Jan4girls, she has a limit of $800 for 1 whole year. Yes that's one whole year, including take out. You should check out her site. I know we could never get down to $800 a year. But we sure try to get get as low as possible. I'm also part of a yahoo group called HowToShopForFree. I receive daily digest of this group, because if I choose individual email, I would never be able to leave my hotmail account. Anyway, one of the coupon savy people sent in this list of companies. They had emailed approximately 70 of these companies and received around 50 responses back with coupons. One day here this week I will be able to email a few to see what response I receive.

Quilt

Here is the quilt I've been working on for my new nephew. He's hasn't been born yet. Due date is March 7th. I purchased a set of burp clothes at Target when they were on clearance. I paid $1.74 for a set of four. I think it only cost around $20 for all the materials. This is one of the many quilts my family will be receiving for Christmas this year. I just have to finish the binding and I'll be done. So, 1 down and 9 more to go.

I have purchased the colors for another quilt. Greens. I absolutely love green. It reminds me of walking through woods or through fields. Here are the fabrics.

I'm not sure who to give this one to though. I guess I'll make it first and decide at a later date.

Apron Swap

I just signed up for this swap also. I think I will only sign up for a couple and see how I do with them. I have the perfect apron in mind for this swap, so I should be busy this week.

Kitchen Colors

Now at tax time, we have decided to try and finish our kitchen, sum what. We purchased 3 new cabinets for our peninsula when we first moved into our house. Yes 2 yrs ago. We haven't bought counter tops for it yet, only because they have to be custom made. Well we are going to be finishing it this year. That isn't they only remodel we will be making in our kitchen. We are taking out this huge pantry and installing cabinets also. That will be further down the road. We're taking out the pantry only so I can get the fridge I want. But any way, when we do the peninsula, I will be painting also. I have to find colors that match these pics.

Hopefully you can see the colors. It's kind of a greenish blue.

I'm just now getting into sewing more. I've had my machine for 3yrs and never really did anything with it. I now have two adorable girls, and have always wanted to make kids clothes. I have made one apron before, which was out of an old pillowcase. I think it turned out fine. I now have experience with making skirts, so i should be fine making an apron. I really can't wait to start though. I just need to find vintage material. I've looked online and that will probably be where I purchase from.

Here are the skirts I made for my girls. I made one each for them. One polka dots and one with butterflies. Each of them are reversible. I do know I will make the next ones with only one pocket. It looks too busy with 2 pockets. Sorry for the blurry photo. I'm still working on getting used to my camera on my phone.

EASY LIP BALM #1

Lip Balm with Essential Oil Flavoring

2 Tbsp. petroleum jelly
1 tsp. beeswax
10 drops of essential oil (your choice)

* What you do:

1 In a small pot, melt the petroleum jelly on LOW heat.
2 When it is completely melted, remove

from heat and add the essential oils.
3 Stir until mixed.
4 Gently pour into containers and let cool before using.

Holiday Organization Here I come!!

Okay so I've discovered a way to stay organized for this upcoming holiday season. Create a binder. This is the first one I found, and this is the second one. I now have to find a binder, which I should have one just laying around my house somewhere.
I also need to decide what my tabs will be:
1. Christmas Card list (I usually get the picture ones with my girls on them)
2. Baking Ideas (I did cookies and truffles this year, but am open to anything)
3. Gift Ideas, including an envelope to keep receipts(this year everyone is getting a quilt, yes, will be a long process but I've already started on one. 10 total to make, but only 3 will be queen size, the rest will be twin for the kids)
4. Decorating (I really haven't been into decorating as much as I used to, I need to start getting more seasonal items instead of Christmas specific.)
5. Parties?? Not sure if I want to include this, as we really don't have many parties. My immediate family and his family. Other than that nothing.

The quilts I'm trying to keep a budget of $30 for all supplies each. My nephews, who I have already started to make one of, I'm using their old burp clothes to make the topper and then just need to buy flannel for the backing. My girls I will be doing the same thing. So the cost really wont be much for them. I've already purchased the queen size batting for $10 a piece. And like with the twin size, I'm just going to use the JoAnn Fabrics coupon to get the more expensive items.

I have found a simple quilt to do here. Will post each when I'm done.

Out of Work

My husband has been out of work for the last month now. It's really hard to get by on just one income, when I have to pay for a sitter also. He's out due to a surgery he had to have back on the 4th of August.
It all started 2-3 weeks before I had Lillian. He was complaining about pain in is rectal area. It got so bad that we went to the ER. Well they determined he had an abscess. They lanced it, and it was good for the next few months. Then the first weekend in June, it came back. We went to the hospital had it lanced again. At that point the doctor said it could be more. Turns out he had a really bad case of Roids. The worst the doctor has ever seen. So on top of the abscess he now has hemorrhoids.
They decided to go into surgery on the 4th of August. They removed the hemorrhoids with no problem but could not find where the abscess was. A week after surgery he thought it was getting infected. Nope he got the abscess back. Now he has a fistula. So on the 15th of Aug, he went back in for removal of the fistula. They removed a portion and he has to go back on the 19th of Sept. to remove the remainder.
We figure 2 weeks after that he might be able to go back to work, but that would only be for 4 weeks. He works seasonally and his job doesn't get any business after October.
Frustration has really set in for me. We can't pay bills, we can't buy groceries like we used to. We can't even get our girls the clothes they will be needing real soon. The weather here is about to switch to cool.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Shopping Trip

Well I have finally started to blog. My first post will be of my shopping trip today. I haven't done a major shopping trip in weeks. My first stop was to Price Chopper. They had baby food on sale 10 for $5. Stock up time. I have Beechnut email me weekly and this week they sent me a coupon for $1 off of 4 jars of Good Morning or Good Evening food. I got 16 jars today for $4. I think that is just plan awesome.
Next I went to P & C, I believe they are only in PA and NY. I saved a total of $70 and paid $50.

Now I hope to be shopping at RiteAid again soon. My husband has been out of work for the past month due to surgery. Money is extremely tight. Will talk more about that at a different time.
